Loop Stitch is a beautiful stitch that is so easy to work with. You can make lovely flowers with this stitch.

What you will need?

  • Any fabric.
  • Embroidery hoop, 15cm (6″) (Bigger if you are working on a larger design) ( You can purchase a set of 6 hoops from Amazon for your basic needs.)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Embroidery thread (You can buy this pack of 36 shades of the DMC embroidery floss.)

How many strands of floss do you need for making the Loop Stitch?

You can use all 6 strands of the floss. But if you are working on a finer design, then start with 2 strands of floss and increase the number of strands according to your design. I have used all 6 strands for making this stitch.

Step by Step Pictorial Process of making the Looped Stitch

starting the stitch

1. Make a circle or oval shape and insert the head pin from the middle of it and take it to the edge of the oval. You can check the picture above for reference. Bring the thread up at the edge of the shape at point A.

2. Start looping the thread around the pin by taking the thread under it.

3. Keep wrapping the thread around the pin.

4. Once you have wrapped the thread, take the needle down at the edge of the shape from where we started. Take the needle down at point B.

5. Bring the needle up at the other end of the pin and tie from in the between the loops as shown above.

6. Remove the pin and secure the loops by taking the needle down in the middle of the loops.

Tips for working the Loop Stitch

  1. You will need a head pin to work this stitch.
  2. Loop around the needle as many times as you wish according to the design.
  3. Insert at a shorter distance for smaller flowers.
