So, in this Embroider Along With Me Series, I will be working on a cute bicycle. You can check out my previous series below:

hand embroidered cycle

I totally loved this little piece of embroidery. I just wish I could ride a bike like this someday. There were 2 buttons lying in my crafts box and I was wondering what to do with it.

There was suddenly a “bingo” moment when I realized that I would actually put them to good use in the form of a bicycle. It was a bit of trial and error before I finished this look.

As I was still in an experimenting stage, I didn’t think I would end up with something worth putting on the blog. Hence, I didn’t get a chance to photograph the step by step or shoot the video.

What you will need?

  • Any fabric.
  • Embroidery hoop, 15cm (6″) (Bigger if you are working on a larger design) ( You can purchase a set of 6 hoops from Amazon for your basic needs.)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Embroidery thread (You can buy this pack of 36 shades of the DMC embroidery floss.)
  • 2 buttons

How many strands of floss do you need for making this pattern

I have used 6 strands of floss. For the french knot and the lazy daisy, I used 3 strands.

cycle stitches

You can see from the above picture the different kinds of stitches that I have used for this pattern. First, I started with securing the buttons with buttonhole stitch. Then the bicycle was made with a combination of straight stitches and couching.

Next, the basket was made with trellis weaving.

Finally, the flowers were worked on with a combination of the french knot and lazy daisy stitch.

So until next time,

Keep Stitching,
